Working together works! Whole Foods Evanston Community Marketing Specialists Carieann Sommers (WF North) and Bridget Isaia (WF South) approached Hunger Resource Network http://hungerresourcenetwork.org last November about partnering during Whole Foods’ holiday “Bag Hunger” Project. Since HRN’s goal is to supplement food banks, shelters, food pantries and soup kitchens through its network of business partners and volunteers, the response was an enthusiastic “yes!” Thanks to the generosity of Whole Foods’ customers and employees, $22,000 was raised! This money was used to purchase over 10 tons of food which was delivered on 16 pallets on Saturday, January 22nd. The pallets were broken down, re-sorted according to agency needs, loaded into trucks and cars and delivered back into the Evanston community that same day. Benefitting organizations include Hillside Food Pantry, A Just Harvest, Salvation Army, Connections for the Homeless, First Presbyterian Church and New Life Shelter.
