Mission
The mission of Hunger Resource Network is to establish a non-denominational network dedicated to the alleviation of hunger by linking together businesses, food providers, soup kitchens, houses of worship, shelters, pantries and volunteers.
About Us
Hunger Resource Network is a network of business partners, recipient agencies, and volunteers that service those in need by supplementing food pantries, shelters, and soup kitchens throughout our network.
Hunger Resource Network (HRN) began in April 2009, and has grown to over 100 volunteers around the Chicago area. Business relationships have been established with local, regional, and national businesses. Recipient Agencies and individual and volunteer groups reach out through our network and service and connect those in need.
In 2009, Hunger Resource Network distributed 63 tons of food plus other essentials for recipient agencies throughout the Chicago area. In 2010, we distributed 74 tons of food, in addition to making 12 connections directly between recipient agencies and business partners. We also expanded our reach into the Fox Valley from Elgin through Yorkville.
Whether it's finding business partners able to provide supplemental food and supplies, connecting recipient agencies with these food sources, or recruiting volunteers for agency assistance, we are willing to make the connection.
What makes us unique?
• We do what we can to help Recipient Agencies do what they do.
• We are not in competition with any other organizations. As long as food does not go to waste, we don’t discriminate on who gets it or who delivers it!
• We are not limited geographically.
• We do not limit our help to recipient agencies because of their location or size, type of organization, or tax-exempt status.
• We are not limited in the type of help we provide. We provide food, clothing, or volunteers.
• We do not charge agencies for our help.
• We help regardless of a recipient agency’s ability to pay.
Goals
Hunger Resource Network’s network of businesses, volunteers, and recipient agencies fills a need by maximizing donations to agencies and rescuing food, which might otherwise go to waste.
We establish the connection that links businesses, recipient agencies, and volunteers by using technology for:
• Recipient Agencies to communicate their needs.
• Business Partners and Individuals to donate items.
• Volunteers to work within the network.
• Developing a model that can be implemented in other communities.
